Ways to Avoid Jet Lag

4 Ways to Avoid Jet Lag

You did everything right…bags are packed, tickets are printed out and even a few necessary comforts of home are within your reach – an eye mask, wrap and some earplugs – BUT that dreaded jet lag is about to set in once you land at your destination or is it? Each time you travel across time zones jet lag sets in and you tried just about everything to alleviate the symptoms’ – naps, pills and even hypnosis but now there is a new app that is changing the way we face jet lag which will help you avoid jet lag.

Uplift Ventures LLC, solution providers in the travel health and wellness field, announces its latest breakthrough – Uplift, a mobile application that provides a custom solution to reset your internal body clock to your new time zone and helps you avoid jet lag. This easy to download, neuroscientist created app is based on muscle biofeedback and acupressure techniques and resets the internal body clock.

It is changing the travel industry and bringing relief to millions of corporate and leisure travels facing jet lag. More on the benefits of this new app but first why is jet lag such a nuisance? Jet Lag or desynchronosis is a physiological condition resulting from rapid long-distance jet travel and changing time zones. Jet lag impacts your sleep, digestion, body temperature, stress and hormone systems. Symptoms include: Insomnia, fatigue, headaches, irritability, constipation, and/or diarrhea.  Until now, there has not been an effective natural solution.

It is real and for many years while traveling long distance jet lag was considered merely a state of mind. Now, studies have shown that the condition actually results from an imbalance in the body’s natural “biological clock” caused by traveling to different time zones. Basically bodies work on a 24-hour cycle called “circadian rhythms.” These rhythms are measured by the distinct rise and fall of body temperature, plasma levels of certain hormones and other biological conditions. All of these are influenced by exposure to sunlight and help determine when we sleep and when we wake. When traveling to a new time zone, our circadian rhythms are slow to adjust and remain on their original biological schedule for several days. This results in our bodies telling us when it is time to sleep, when it’s actually the middle of the afternoon, or it makes us want to stay awake when it is late at night. This experience is known as jet lag.

According to NASA research, it takes 20-24 hour for your body to adjust for each hour of time zone change. A 6 hour time change would take from 5-6 days for all your body’s physiological systems to adjust to your new time zone.  That is a lot of time especially if you are overseas on a 5-7 day trip!  With Uplift, it reduces this transition time, so you have more quality time when you travel.

Co-founder and creator Charles T. Krebs Ph.D. had been working worldwide with the application of muscle biofeedback and acupressure techniques for over 30 years. He is a global expert in neuroscience and acupressure who developed this solution “To create more joy and function in the travel experience”

He created Uplift after a near fatal scuba diving accident in Australia left him paralyzed from the waist down, and in his road to recovery and with his in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology he learned to walk again. He was traveling so frequently to lecture and teach neurology around the word and in giving his complex presentations he had to be alert and on his game. After years of traveling he thought there has to be a better way to avoid jet lag and there is with Uplift.

“We developed our patent pending formula and special algorithm in the Uplift App to utilize the departure time and arrival times to locate the acupoints that travelers will need to activate to “resynchronize” their body clock to the current clock time of the place of their arrival.”

Uplift Ventures says there are many ways to make yourself more comfortable during your flight and along with downloading the app here are a few tips to avoid jet lag along with the fatigue of traveling:

1) Have a great set of eyeshades and have a noise reduction strategy – Don’t rely on the cheap nylon ones the airlines give you. Have a couple of sets of earplugs on the flight so you can sleep.  If you cannot sleep at least rest and relax your senses. The background noise level on planes are high so earplugs or headphones cut the noise level down and reduce stress.

2) Saline solution is a natural disinfectant – For healthy travel it’s important to keep sinuses hydrated. Sinuses do dry out on an airplane and the saline keeps the passageway moist and protects from airborne germs on the plane.

3) Exercise and a hot bath will regulate your body – Getting the blood flowing and more oxygen is a huge help to offset the negative effects of a long-distance trip and is extremely helpful to regulate your body to a new place. Also, make a point to take a walk after dinner, this helps your digestive system and can allow for better sleep not going to bed on a full stomach after dinner when you are tired from a long trip and a long day. A hot bath at your destination will help relax your body and get ready for sleep (especially before bed) The water is naturally soothing and re-hydrates your body after a long trip.

4) Natural Light is key – When arriving at the destination get as much sunshine and natural light as possible. Take off those sunglasses and embrace the sunshine as it helps reprogram the body to your new place.
