Spring brings with it two of the most important celebrations in the world, each with a different character: Holy Week and the Feria de Abril.

Holy Week in Seville
Holy Week in Seville is both a demonstration of religious fervor and a tourist and socio-cultural show, bringing together some splendid examples of Seville’s religious sculpture and crafts.  All of this is wrapped in the magic of Seville with its scent of orange blossoms and incense in early Spring.  The parade of many guilds in a procession lasting from the morning of Holy Thursday until Good Friday morning is known as La Madruga.  During this time, the most charismatic images take to the streets of Seville and these are certainly very exciting moments.  It is impressive to the see the procession of the Brotherhood of the Great Power, in the Plaza de San Lorenzo, from 1AM or the Brotherhood of the Macarena on Resolana and Feria Street at 2AM.  Then later you can watch the Brotherhood of Hope of Triana along the bridge and Reyes Catolicos Street at 4AM.  An alternative is the Brotherhood of Silence on Francos Street and Plaza del Salvador.  Out of all the spring events in Seville, Spain, Holy Week is an extraordinary and surprising experience.

Feria de Abril
In short order, Seville changes its atmosphere of mysticism for one of an explosion of color and joy focused on the Real del la Feria, (a space this is filled with booths where people dance and have fun.)  This spring event in Seville, Spain is a week which brings with the “Alumbrao” or lighting up the fairground with thousands of light bulbs and during which Seville lives for partying, music, food, dancing and fun, creating a very special atmosphere.
